Why cuts to HUD must happen

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6824033/

Cheney_frontal Making decisions on where to cut spending is never a light-hearted task.  I'm not surprised that people are upset about our plans to cut spending on urban and rural development.  But tough decisions must be made given our record budget deficits.  We must consider the facts. This country cannot develop both Kharbala and downtown Kansas City.  We must choose between Mosul and Miami.  The path we should follow is clear.

In addition, we must honor our contractual obligations to the corporations that are rebuilding Iraq. Haliburton is not nonprofit organization; it must answer to shareholders and generate profits.  Without our continued funding, these American corporations would be forced to leave Iraq, opening the door for corporations from other countries, such as Russia or France, to rebuild Iraq with funds from the United Nations and other international organizations that did not support the great war of liberation.

Those who question our policies only comfort the enemy.  I ask all Americans in these trying times to act patriotically and support cuts to spending at home so Haliburton can stay at work abroad.

Welcome to the official blog of Dick Cheney, Vice Present

Cheney_flag Welcome to the official "blog" site of the Vice President.  During the recent presidential campaign, I realized that many American fail to understand the policies of this administration.  I asked myself, how can I communicate more directly with American patriots?  This "Dick Blog" is the answer.  It will serve as a connection between the Vice President's office and the American people, informing them with an inside perspective of events and a narrative on history as it unfolds.  It will give everyday citizens a better appreciation of our policies and the values that drive them.

Today we live in an era of grave danger and insecurity, an era when the election of a weak President could result in a major terrorist attack against the United States.  A nuclear attack may be imminenet.  Americans should keep this in mind before voting for candidates other than the Bush-Cheney ticket and our supporters.  Unlike our opponents, we support protecting Americans from terrorist attacks.  Only we understand that keeping the peace is important in times of peace, but fighting the battle is crucial in times of war.

Terrorists hate Americans becaues of our freedom and liberty, so invading countries in the Middle East to spread democracy is the most promisting way to defeat the international terrorist movement.  In Iraq, the people and their American liberators are experiencing a new standard of safety and prosperity due to our gift of freedom.  Millons of Muslims across the borders are certainly watching.  The promise of importing the same experience into their own countries must be hard to imagine and will certainly change their perceptions of Western democracy and the United States.

On the home front, we must wage an equally important fight against the left-wing elite who oppose success.  These folks disapprove of relief for our nation's winners.  From ending double taxation on dividend income to ending the death tax, this administration is committed to helping those brave enough to lead corporate America and with the morale clarity to invest in the stock market.  The American dream to pass the benefits of prosperity to our children must be protected.  Paris Hilton and other sons and daughters of successful Americans enjoy a way of life that we must cherish and preserve.

The Bush team will remain on the right side of the issues.  I hope you stay in touch with this site and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you in the months and years ahead.
